Our Story

Born from love for the neighborhood that raised us.

Pleasant City is more than a place on a map. It is Palm Beach County’s first Black neighborhood—a community built through courage, culture, family, and pride.

Pleasant City Rising was founded by longtime resident and community advocate Marrisa Davis after returning to the neighborhood and seeing both its challenges and its untapped promise. What began as documenting problems and demanding action grew into years of hands-on advocacy for safer streets, cleaner public spaces, stronger resources, and responsible development.

Today, we are turning that work into a lasting community-led organization—one that honors the people who built Pleasant City and makes sure longtime residents have a voice in what comes next.

What We’re Building

A neighborhood rising on its own terms.

Our work connects residents, public agencies, businesses, and community partners around practical improvements that people can see and feel.

01

Safer Streets

Advocating for responsive enforcement, nuisance abatement, private security partnerships, and safe public spaces for families.

02

Neighborhood Pride

Supporting cleanups, fencing, landscaping, beautification, and homeowner-centered programs that restore pride block by block.

03

Resident Opportunity

Connecting neighbors to workforce development, youth enrichment, reentry support, local resources, and pathways to stability.

04

Responsible Growth

Championing investment that respects Pleasant City’s history, includes resident voices, and creates shared community benefit.

Our Commitment

Progress should never require erasing the people who made this community home.

We believe preservation and progress can live side by side. Pleasant City can welcome thoughtful investment while protecting its history, strengthening its residents, and keeping the community’s voice at the center.

We don’t just speak about Pleasant City.
We live here. We serve here. We rise here.
